BNP Paribas Showdown

The BNP Paribas Showdown is an exhibition tournament, which is held annually in New York's Madison Square Garden, the first time on 10 March 2008. The invitational tournament serves as the opening of the tennis season in America and is in each case before the Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami discharged. Winner of the inaugural tournament was Roger Federer.

Name, format and mode of the tournament changed almost every year. In 2008 the tournament was first held NetJets Showdown and was named with Roger Federer and Pete Sampras an exhibition match between players of different generations of players. 2009-10 the tournament under the name Billie Jean King Cup was held in honor of former U.S. tennis player Billie Jean King; Here the four winners of the Grand Slam tournaments last year were invited each. In the semi final was played on a profit rate ( and without cost ), but the final one played in the classic best-of -three format. Since 2011, the tournament will be held under its current name; to the 2011 discharge were but unlike last year invited no more ladies, but with Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras Legends of American men's tennis, the mode, however, was the same as in the two previous years. 2012 each a ladies and a gentleman match took place. 20,000 spectators Roger Federer lost his match against Andy Roddick 7-5, 7:67. In the women Marija Sharapova won her match against Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-4.
