BNP Paribas is one of the leading commercial banks of France and was measured at the inserts 2010, the largest bank in Europe, as measured by market value 2011, the third largest bank in Europe. It was created on 23 May 2000 through the merger of Banque Nationale de Paris ( BNP) and Paribas. History

BNP was created in 1966 from the merger of the Banque Nationale du Commerce et de l'Industrie ( BNCI ) with the Comptoir National d' Escompte de Paris ( = National Discount Bank Paris; short CNEP ). 1993 BNP was privatized.

Expansion to China

On 23 September 2005, BNP Paribas acquired a 20% stake in China's Nanjing City Commercial Bank, like a Chinese official press release in the state press reported. Criticism

In September 2010, BNP Paribas was sentenced along with ten other banks by the Conseil de la Concurrence to pay a fine in the amount of 381.1 million euros.
