Bo Berglund

Bo Berglund ( born April 6, 1955 in Själevad ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who played in his time from 1973 to 1990 among others for the Nordiques de Québec, Minnesota North Stars and Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Bo Berglund began his career as a hockey player in the junior department of MoDo AIK, for the first team he to 1977 in the highest Swedish league was active from 1973 - first in Division 1, and then from the 1975/76 season in the newly formed Elitserien. During his time at MoDo he was selected in the NHL Amateur Draft 1975 in the eighth round when a total 140 players from the Boston Bruins. Since then, however, this did not oblige him, he played from 1977 to 1983 for Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. With his team, he finished first in the 1978/79 season in second place and was in the 1982/83 season finally Swedish Champion with Djurgårdens IF.

Following the championship in Sweden Berglund has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the relatively late age of 28 in the twelfth round than a total of 232 players from Nordiques de Québec. In the 1983/84 season - his rookie year in the National Hockey League - he scored a total of 82 games in 45 scorer points, including 18 goals, for the Nordiques. The following season he joined the Nordiques before he was released on December 14, 1984, with Tony McKegney in exchange for Brad Maxwell and Brent Ashton to the Minnesota North Stars. By the end of the season he scored in 35 games for these six goals and nine assists, while he stood on the ice parallel three times for their farm team in Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League. The 1985/86 season began, the Swede with the North Stars, but was transferred after three games for Minnesota in the NHL and the Springfield Indians in the AHL with Dave Richter for Todd Bergen and Ed Hospodar to the Philadelphia Flyers. There, however, he could not sit down and just stood in seven games for the Flyers in the NHL on the ice while he was active throughout the remaining playing time for their AHL farm team Hershey Bears.

In the summer of 1986, Berglund returned to his native Sweden, where he received a contract with the second division club AIK Solna, with whom he immediately achieved promotion to the Elitserien. In the Elitserien for AIK he could convince especially in the season 1987/88. In this, he scored a total of 44 games in 63 scorer points, including 28 goals, making him the top scorer of the Elitserien. For this reason, he received the Guldpucken as the best Swedish player of the year and was also elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. Following the 1989/90 season, the now 35 -year-old Berglund ended a career. Since 2009 he has worked as a scout for the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL.

Internationally

For Sweden, Berglund took part in the Under-19 European Junior Championships and the U20 World Junior Championships at junior level in 1974. In the senior level, he stood in the squad of his country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and in Calgary in 1988 and the World Cup 1989. At the Olympic Winter Games he won with his team bronze medals.
