Boao Forum for Asia

The Boao Forum (English: Boao Forum for Asia, Chinese :博鳌 亚洲 论坛; Pinyin: Boao Yazhou Luntan ) is a high-level meeting of political, economic and academic leaders, which was formed after the model of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

History

The meeting was initiated in 1998 by former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos, the then Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and the then Japanese Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa. It was founded on 27 February 2001 from 26 Asian and Pacific countries and took place in April 2002 for the first time.

Venue is the small town of Boao (Chinese:博鳌, Pinyin: Boao ) on the southern Chinese island of Hainan. The secretariat is located, however, in Beijing.
