Board of Governors of the BBC

The BBC Board of Governors was a committee of the British broadcaster BBC and existed from 1927 until 31 December 2006. It oversaw the establishment and represented the interests of the public, in particular those of the listeners and viewers. The panel consisted of twelve members. It was comparable to the broadcasting councils of public service broadcasters in Germany. It was replaced on 1 January 2007 by the BBC Trust.

Organization

The committee 's task was to define and to monitor compliance with the objectives of the BBC. In addition, may have been investigated appeared complaints. About the situation of the institution put it annually in a report to the British Parliament and the British public accountability. A direct influence on the program did not exist. The Director-General and other senior positions of the BBC, however, were determined by the Board.

The members were (currently Queen Elizabeth II ) appointed by the head of the British monarchy. However, the British Government ministers recommended the candidates. The members of the panel were doing proposed by various circles of British society, with four each responsible for one of the regions of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The term of office lasted four years (previously five years).
