Bob Anderson (racing driver)

Robert " Bob" Anderson ( born May 19, 1931 in Hendon, England; † August 14, 1967 in Northampton, England ) was a British automobile and motorcycle racer. He participated in 25 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Career

Bob Anderson was the first motorcycle racer and denied 1951-1966 a total of 15 Grands Prix in the MotoGP World Championship. His best World Cup finishes he achieved in 1958 and 1960, when he each fifth in the 350 cc class was on Norton.

In the early 1960s drove Anderson first time a Lola Formula Junior at Snetterton and belonged then to the Lotus Formula Junior team. The beginning of 1963 he bought a Lola F1 and engaged as a private driver in Formula 1 1964 he was Brabham driver and took his only podium finish behind Lorenzo Bandini and Richie Ginther at the first Grand Prix of Austria at the airfield in Zeltweg. After that he never had enough money to keep up with the top teams, thought the end of 1966 about quitting, but tried again in season 1967. In private testing at Silverstone he slipped on a wet road in a marshals - house and died a few days later to his head injuries in a hospital in Northampton.
