Bob Avakian

Bob Avakian ( born March 7, 1943 in Washington DC) is Chairman and theoretician of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP ), the largest Maoist group in the United States.

Life

Avakian grandparents immigrated from Armenia. Avakian was born in Washington and grew up in Berkeley. There he attended high school and the University of California. He has been in the movement for freedom of speech ( Free Speech Movement or FSM) politicized and was initially a leader of the Revolutionary Union ( Revolutionary Confederation). In 1975, Avakian was a founding member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, as well as C. Clark Kissinger and Carl Dix, and has since been its chairman.
