Bob Berg

Bob Berg ( born April 7, 1951 in Brooklyn, † 5 December 2002 in Amaganset, Long Iceland ) was an American jazz saxophonist.

Life

Berg received as a child and began classical piano lessons at the age of thirteen with the saxophone. He attended the High School of Performing Arts and graduated in 1968 at the Juilliard School of Music, a course in classical saxophone. With a subsequent tour with Jack McDuff began in 1969 his career as a professional musician.

Between 1973 and 1976 he played with Horace Silver, then to 1981 with Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins. Under his own name he played the plates " New Birth" (1978) and " Steppin '" (1982 ) a. This was followed up in 1983 to stay in Europe. From 1984 to 1987 he was member of the band by Miles Davis. With guitarist Mike Stern, whom he met at Davis, he formed a fusion band, which existed until 1993. He also worked with Randy Brecker, since 1992 also in the groups of Chick Corea. In addition, he has appeared with the own Bob Berg Quartet, among others in 1992 in the Caribbean and in 1994 in the Soviet Union. His album Backroads was nominated for a Grammy in 1993.

His last project was - together with Randy Brecker, Joey DeFrancesco and Dennis Chambers - The Jazz Times Superband. He also worked on recordings by Gary Burton, Leni Stern, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Eliane Elias, Tom Harrell, Barbara Dennerlein and Joe Chambers. Berg died in a traffic accident.
