Bob C. Riley

Bob Cowley Riley ( born September 18, 1924 in Little Rock, Arkansas, † 16 February 1994 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas ) was an American politician and governor of Arkansas in 1975.

Early years

Bob Riley attended the public schools in Little Rock. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and subsequent U.S. involvement in the Second World War, Riley dropped out of high school to join the Marine Corps. In Guam, he was severely wounded and blinded by it. After the war he finished his education at the University of Arkansas.

Political rise

Riley was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1946 to 1950 he was while studying also a member of the state parliament of Arkansas. In 1950 he applied unsuccessfully for a job in the Senate from Arkansas. He then became an insurance agent for a short time. Between 1951 and 1955 he taught himself at the University of Arkansas business and political science. Subsequently, he was for many years head of the Department of Political Science at the Quachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia in Clark County. From 1960 to 1966 he was a member of the City Council of Arkadelphia and then from 1966 to 1967 mayor of this place. In 1968 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Governor and other CV

From 1971 to 1975, Riley Vice Governor (Lieutenant Governor ) of Arkansas. Following the resignation of Governor Dale Bumpers on January 3, 1975, he had to quit as acting governor whose term of office until 14 January 1975. In these two weeks, he has only managed the office and then handed over to the newly elected in November, Gov. David Pryor. Riley then returned to Arkadelphia, where he resumed his teaching career until 1980. Then his poor health forced him to give up this work. He died on 16 February 1994 of heart failure. Bob Riley was married to Claudia Zimmerman since 1956.
