Bob Casey, Jr.

Robert Patrick " Bob" Casey, Jr. ( born April 13, 1960 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. Since 2007 he represents the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Bob Casey was born as one of eight children in a Catholic family coming from Ireland. He is the son of Robert P. Casey, the 42nd Governor of Pennsylvania.

In 1982 he finished the College of the Holy Cross and received a doctorate in law from the Catholic University of America. He served between the college and the university as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps ( American equivalent of the Jesuit Volunteers) and taught one year at the Gesu School in Philadelphia. Casey and his wife, Terese married in 1985 and have four daughters, Elyse, Caroline, Julia and Marena.

From 1991 to 1996 he worked as a lawyer in Scranton. He was elected to the Pennsylvania State Auditor General in 1996. In 2002, he defeated Ed Rendell in the Democratic primary for governor in Pennsylvania.

Casey was State Treasurer (Finance Minister) of the State of Pennsylvania and was elected on November 7, 2006 a United States Senator. He defeated the previous incumbent Rick Santorum by the Republican Party and joined this office in January 2007. From 2011 to 2013 he chaired the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.
