Bob Filner

Robert " Bob" Filner ( born September 4, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and, since December 2012 the Mayor of San Diego. From 1993 to 2012, he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of California.

Biography

After schooling Filner first studied chemistry at Cornell University and acquired there in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Chemistry ). A subsequent post-graduate studies in history at the University of Delaware, he finished in 1969 with a Master of Arts (MA History). Subsequently, he was from 1970 to 1992 employees of the history faculty of San Diego State University ( SDSU ). In addition, however, he studied further at Cornell University and acquired in 1973 a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D. History of Science).

In addition to his work at SDSU, he was also 1975 employees on the staff of Democratic U.S. Senator for Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey and in 1976 by Donald M. Fraser, a Democratic Congressman from Minnesota. In addition, he was from 1979 to 1983 a member of the school board of San Diego and in 1982 its president. In 1987 he started his own political career with election as a member of the City Council of San Diego, where he served not only to 1992, but he was also Deputy Mayor in 1990.

He was first elected as a candidate of the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and represented there by eight elections since the January 3, 1993 the 50th or January 3, 2003 51 Congressional District.
