His scientific and thematic focus is to analyze the capitalist state itself, as well as " the formative dynamics him of political transformation ." His involvement with the subject state dates back to the 1970s.

In theoretical terms to Jessop sets with regulation theory, the theories of Antonio Gramsci and Nicos Poulantzas and the discourse analysis and the theorem of autopoiesis in systems theory apart. In addition, his recourse is to considerations of Claus Offe, where Jessop builds the concept of strategic selection. He undertakes to keep trying these approaches with each other, thus refers not only to purely Marxist theory strands.

Jessops chief interest is to develop a " strategic- relational [n ] conception of capitalist socialization ". The project of development and application of the "strategic - relational approach" so far comprises five books, beginning with The Capitalist State. Marxist Theories and Methods published in 1982 Jessops not yet completed goal is that " Theoretically informed critical history of the changing political economy of post -war Britain to write " and thereby embed the change of the British state in a wide range of economic, political and socio- cultural context. The other publications on this subject are his work on Nicos Poulantzas, the band State Theory: Putting the Capitalist State in Its Place, and The future of the capitalist state.

Jessops After assessment, the development of so-called Keynesian Welfare National State towards the Schumpeterian workfare post- national regime had taken place as a result of the crisis of Fordism in Europe.
