Bob Latchford

Robert Dennis "Bob" Latchford ( born January 18, 1951 in Birmingham ) is a former English footballer. The 12-time English A-National player was regarded as the ideal type of a center forward, who was equally powerful both in the air and on the ground.

Sports career

Latchford began his career at Birmingham City and scored with 18 years on his debut just two goals. In total, he played 158 times for Birmingham and shot 68 results. He was sold to Everton, where he was the top goalscorer in six seasons, then breaking for the then British transfer record sum ( £ 350,000 ). In 268 games, he scored 138 goals here. It struck him credit, he was very fast despite its size, and in particular the short distances. His club playing in the English league, however, a relatively minor role, while city rivals Liverpool trophies collected on an assembly line. Only in 1977 came Latchford to Everton to the final of the League Cup. In the season 1977/78 with 30 hits Latchford was also top scorer in the English top flight.

Since he did not play for a top English club, he came up with comparatively little A- internationals for England despite his Torerfolge. During his twelve missions he entered five times; He made his debut on November 16, 1977 against Italy and the match against Austria on June 13, 1979 was to be his last international match. The former coach Ron Greenwood took him from now on before Paul Mariner of Ipswich Town.

As Latchford Everton left in 1981 and moved to Swansea City, he was with 106 league goals of top scorer of Everton FC after the Second World War. This record was broken in 1990 by Graeme Sharp. For Swansea City he scored a hat-trick in his first use. Later he played for the Dutch team NAC Breda, the English clubs Coventry City and Lincoln City, and most recently in Wales for Newport County and Merthyr Tydfil. For Swansea City and Merthyr Tydfil, he won in the years 1982, 1983 and 1987, a total of three times the Welsh Cup.
