Bob Lutz (businessman)

Robert " Bob" Anthony Lutz ( born February 12, 1932 in Zurich ) is an American manager.

Biography

The Swiss-born Lutz, son of a banker, with his family immigrated to the United States. Since 1949 he is a U.S. citizen. He was from 1954 to 1959 fighter pilot in the U.S. Marines. The study at the University of California, Berkeley, he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor in "production science" from, the following year he received his master's degree in " Business Administration" with the highest honors the University of California.

His career in the auto industry began in 1963 at General Motors, where he held various management positions in Europe in the following years. For three years he was then employed at BMW, where he developed the portfolio as a marketing chief restructured (BMW 5 Series, BMW 3 Series ). In 1974, he joined Ford in Cologne and became head of Ford Europe. He was one of the last four years the Board of the Group's interest in Detroit ( Michigan).

As Deputy CEO Lutz moved in 1986 to Chrysler Group from 1998 to 2001, he belonged to Exide Technologies, the global leader in lead-acid batteries, including as Chief Executive Officer. 2001 Lutz returned to the roots of his career, General Motors, back.

He is known for his collection of classic cars and airplanes. Privately, he uses including a decommissioned Alpha Jet ( trainer and light fighter bomber of the German Armed Forces ).
