Bob Menendez

Robert " Bob" Menendez ( born January 1, 1954 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party, who represents the State of New Jersey in January 2006 in the U.S. Senate. He is the first U.S. Senator from New Jersey, who is Hispanic, and sitting since January 2013, the Senate Committee on foreign policy front. Previously, he was from 1993 to 2006 member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Biography

Bob Menendez is the son of Cuban immigrants who had fled in 1953 because of their dissatisfaction with the Batista government in New York. His father was a carpenter, his mother a dressmaker. He grew up in Union City, New Jersey, where he also graduated from Union Hill High School. After completing his university degree in Humanities at Saint Peter 's College, he attended law school at Rutgers, where he also gained his law degree.

In 1980 he was admitted to the Bar of New Jersey. Then he took up his work in private practice. From 1986 to 1992, Menendez mayor of Union City. At the same time he was a member of the State Parliament of New Jersey from 1987 to 1991 as a member of the General Assembly from 1991 to 1993 as a member of the Senate.

Policy

Menendez is one of the leaders in the Senate for comprehensive immigration reform ( Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013). He also calls for an intervention of the United States during the civil war in Syria.

In the fall of 2012 Menendez made ​​headlines because he may be looking underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic and because he intended to leave there have flights paid for by a controversial eye surgeon, to whom he gives business benefits in return.
