Bob Sedergreen

Robert " Bob" Sedergreen ( born August 24, 1943 in Acre, Israel) is an Australian jazz pianist.

Life and work

Sedergreen grew up partly in London, since 1951 in Australia. After visiting the Armadale State School and Haileybury College, he worked as a musician. From 1962 to 1970 he was a member of the Quartet of Fred Bradshaw; then he played in the Ted Vining Trio ( 1971-72 ), with Alan Lee Plant ( 1973), as well as in combos of Brian Brown. Then he led his own groups. In the 1980s he was part of the Australian jazz ensemble to Onaje and Peter Gaudions Blues Express and Blues on the Boil. He also collaborated with Don Burrows, Jimmy Witherspoon, Nat Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie and Milt Jackson and toured internationally.

As a music educator, he taught at the Victorian College of the Arts and at the University of Melbourne. In 2007 he published his autobiography, Hear Me Talking to Ya ( Melbourne Books).

Prizes and awards

Sedergren received the 1990 Inaugural Jazz Award as Australia's best keyboardist. In 2006 he was ever Kenneth Myers Medallion awarded the first musician to the for his contributions to art. In 2008 he received the important Australian Music Prize Don Banks Music Award.
