Bob Stump

Robert Lee " Bob" Stump ( April 4, 1927 in Phoenix, Arizona, † June 20, 2003 ) was an American politician. Between 1977 and 2003 he represented the third electoral district of the State of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

After primary school, Stump was a soldier in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then attended the Tolleson High School until 1947 and then until 1953, the Arizona State University. He was working as a farmer and was active in politics. Stump was first a member of the Democratic Party, but switched in 1983 over to the Republicans. Between 1959 and 1967 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Arizona, from 1967 to 1976 he was a member of the State Senate, which he became president in 1975.

Congressman

In the congressional elections of 1976, Stump was elected in the third electoral district of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from Sam Steiger. Despite his party change Bob Stump was confirmed in the following midterm elections until 2000 throughout this mandate. Thus he was able to remain in the U.S. Congress between January 1977 and January 3, 2003 3. From 1995 to 2001 he was Chairman of the Veterans Committee and from 2001 to 2003 he headed the Armed Services Committee, whose member he was already gone before.
