Bob Sweikert

Robert " Bob" Sweikert ( born May 20, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, † June 17, 1956 in Salem, Indiana) was an American race car driver.

Career

Sweikert began his Rennkarierre in 1950, but was limited as most U.S. drivers that time on race in America. He denied 1950-1956 36 races to AAA / USAC National series, of which he won four.

From 1952, he was seen regularly at the Indianapolis 500 at the start. His most successful year was 1955: He won the 500- mile race at Indianapolis, this race was one in the 1950 Formula 1 World Championship. His victory was overshadowed by the fatal crash last year's winner Bill Vukovich. In the same year Sweikert also won the championship of the AAA (American Automobile Association), the previous series, the CART racing series.

1956 reached Sweikert still in sixth place at the Indy 500 before in a racing accident in Salem in the U.S. state of Indiana, he died two weeks later.
