Bob Thaves

Bob Thaves ( October 5, 1924 *, † August 1, 2006 in Torrance, actually Robert Thaves ) was an American comic book artist. He became known by the two comic characters Frank and Ernest ( German Frank and Ernst ), which he invented in 1972.

Life

Even as a child he knew he wanted to be a cartoonist and began to study the work of others and to draw itself. He was so trained that he without considering the signature could identify the author when viewing a Comics. While the college he got his first orders of magazines to subscribe for these comics. He studied psychology at the University of Minnesota and completed his studies in 1950. Later he worked as a psychologist while he invented Frank and Ernest. In Germany his stories published so far only in 1988 Eichborn -Verlag, Frankfurt am Main, under the title of Frank and Ernst. Laughter in the Park ( Original Title: Frank and Ernest ) in the translation of Adolf Heinzl Meier and Deborah Griggs (ISBN 3-8218-1873-5 ).

Bob Thaves died on 1 August 2006 at the age of 81 years.

Awards

With Frank and Ernest Thaves has won several awards, including the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Panel Cartoon Award in the years 1983, 1984 and 1986, also the Mencken Award for Best Comic 1985; He was elected in 1990 to the punster of the Year.
