Bob Turner (politician)

Robert L. "Bob" Turner ( born 2 May 1941 in New York City ) is an American politician. From 2011 to 2013 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. When the internal party primaries ( primaries ) for the candidacy for the U.S. Senate in the 2012 elections he was defeated Wendy E. Long, who ran against the incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand.

Career

Bob Turner graduated from Richmond Hill High School in New York and studied at the St. John's University after that. Between 1962 and 1964 he served in the United States Army. For over 40 years he worked in the advertising and television industries. He designed his own television shows, and directed the company Multimedia Entertainment. He modified the format of various television shows and series, including the well-known in the German-speaking series Baywatch. He was also active in some advertising firms in leading functions. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. He was a staunch opponent of health care reform by President Barack Obama. In 2010, he ran unsuccessfully for even the U.S. House of Representatives.

After the resignation of Democratic deputies Anthony Weiner, to whom he had previously been unsuccessful, Turner was at the due election for the ninth seat of New York as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 13 September 2011. Since he resigned in 2012 to another candidacy and instead unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the Senate elections, he exercised this mandate only until January 3, 2013. He was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Veterans Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security.

Bob Turner was 48 years long married to Peggy Turner. He has five grown children and 13 grandchildren. In November 2012 his house was destroyed in Queens from Hurricane Sandy or destroyed by subsequent fire.
