Bob Whittaker

Robert Russell "Bob" Whittaker ( born September 18, 1939 in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1991 he represented the fifth electoral district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Whittaker attended the public schools in Greenwood County and studied 1957-1959 at the University of Kansas and then at Emporia State College. Subsequently, he studied until 1962 optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. Then he began to work as an ophthalmologist. In 1973, Whittaker director of the Kansas Low Vision Eye Hospital was. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. From 1970 to 1974 he was in his home district in the city planning committee and between 1974 and 1977 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Kansas.

1978 Whittaker was selected in the fifth district of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he came into effect on 3 January 1979 to succeed Joe Skubitz. After five re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1991 six legislative periods. In 1990 he gave up another candidacy. After the end of his time in Congress Whittaker has had no further political office more. He now lives in Augusta ( Kansas).
