Bob Wise

Robert Ellsworth "Bob" Wise, Jr. ( born January 6, 1948 in Washington DC) is an American politician. He was from 2001 to 2005 the 33rd Governor of the state of West Virginia.

Early years and political rise

Bob Wise attended until 1970, Duke University in North Carolina and then studied at Tulane University in New Orleans Jura. After he was admitted to the bar in 1975, he began practicing in West Virginia's capital, Charleston. Between 1980 and 1982, Wise was a member of the Senate of West Virginia. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represented in the years 1983 to 2001 his home state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. After him, the party nominated in 2000 for their top candidates for the forthcoming gubernatorial election. This election won Wise with 51% of the vote against the incumbent Cecil H. Underwood, who came to 47% of the vote.

Governor of West Virginia

Wise began his four-year term on 15 January 2001. He first had to deal with economic problems. This intensified in the months after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Wise managed to overcome the crisis by luring with the help of tax incentives and infrastructure improvements in the new company. Governor Wise also promoted the education of his country. With the help of a scholarship program incentives for students were created to complete their education in West Virginia instead of attending foreign educational institutions. In the medical field, there was a similar process for physicians. These were encouraged by government incentives to settle in West Virginia. A tax on tobacco products should benefit the health budget.

In 2003, the press reported on an extramarital affair of the Governor. Although this had no negative impact on his administration and forgave him his family, it cost him in 2004, the re-election. He originally wanted to run again this year, but refrained after he himself came in his own party because of his affair with resistance.

Today Wise lives in Washington. He is president of the " Alliance for Excellent Education ," a voluntary association for the promotion of education. Still lives with his wife Sandy. The couple has two children.
