Bobby Bradford

Bobby Bradford ( born July 19, 1934 in Cleveland, Mississippi) is an American jazz trumpeter.

Bradford grew up in Dallas, played in high school and in college with Cedar Walton and David Newman. In 1953 he went to Los Angeles, where he first worked with Ornette Coleman, and performed with Wardell Gray, Gerald Wilson and Eric Dolphy. After military service and studies ( Huston - Tillotson College in the Bachelor of Music), he worked 1961-1963 in Coleman Quartet. He then went back to the West Coast, where in 1965 he formed a band with John Carter. In the 1970s he recorded with Coleman and he spent considerable time in Europe, where he worked Ensemble with John Stevens and Trevor Watts in the Spontaneous Music. Then he again lived in Los Angeles where he plays jazz with his Mo'tet avant-garde. He teaches at Pasadena City College in Pasadena (California ) and at Pomona College in Claremont ( California).

His daughter is the singer and high school teacher Carmen Bradford ( b. 1960 ).
