Bobby Czyz

Robert Edward "Bobby" Czyz ( born February 10, 1962 in Wanaque, New Jersey ) is a retired American boxer and commentator.

Career

Czyz, whose surname is from his Polish ancestors had as an amateur lucky, as the U.S. national team, which he was a member in 1980 crashed in Poland by plane, he happened to be, but not because of a traffic accident a week earlier on board.

He began his professional career in 1980 as a middleweight, was defeated in 1982 the Syrian southpaw Mustafa Hamsho and rose to the light heavyweight division. On September 6, 1986, he demanded in Las Vegas out the Olympic champion Slobodan Kačar for the IBF title and won in the fifth round. Against Charles Williams he made in October 1987, although a precipitate had to give up the fight in the eighth round but due to a laceration on the eye and thus lost the belt in his fourth title defense. He was defeated in the episode Dennis Andries to points and also lost in 1989 in two title fights against Virgil Hill ( WBA) and in a rematch Charles Williams.

In 1990, he struck with Andrew Maynard the second undefeated Olympic champion prematurely. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to the cruiserweight division, where he won the WBA title against Robert Daniels on March 8, 1991. After a few title defenses, he handed over the belt because he did not want to box against the prestigious than Orlin Norris Cruiser. In August 1994, he was defeated by David Izeqwire Nigerians.

Czyz then punched a few more times in the heavyweight division, but had no chance against Evander Holyfield and Corrie Sanders and lost each prematurely.

He now works as a commentator for the U.S. pay- TV channel Showtime.

Czyz is known for his high IQ, as the first test of it became public he said ironically. "I am the incarnation of the antithesis of the stereotypical boxer " He is also a member of Mensa.
