Bobby Day

Robert James Byrd ( born July 1, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas; † July 27, 1990 in Culver City, California ), better known as Bobby Day, was an American R & B singer and songwriter whose biggest hit Rockin ' Robin was sold over a million copies and 1972 also gecovert successfully by Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five.

Life

Byrd moved in 1947 to Los Angeles, where he soon founded a band called Flames. This took under different names and with different labels on a set of records, but it took until 1957 before she landed the Day song written by Buzz, Buzz, Buzz under the name Hollywood Flames a hit. Almost at the same time landed the group as Bobby Day and the Satellites another hit with the song Little Bitty Pretty One, but a cover version by Thurston Harris was granted a greater success.

After Day had in 1955 already started a solo career, he took off in 1958 once again this step and promptly landed its biggest musical success with the single Rockin ' Robin / Over And Over. Rockin ' Robin took in the summer of 1958, number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard R & B charts. Also written by Day Over And Over made ​​it into the Billboard charts.

Although Day still recorded a number of songs, he succeeded with any of them to return to the Top 40 two weeks after his 60th birthday, was diagnosed on July 15 in the treatment of a putative intestinal ulcer cancer. On the same day, Day was admitted to the hospital, where he already died twelve days later. His remains were interred in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
