Bobby Farrell

Roberto "Bobby" Alfonso Farrell ( born October 6, 1949 in Sint Nicolaas, Aruba, † December 30, 2010 in St. Petersburg, Russia) was a Dutch DJ and dancer, who as a member of the successful especially in the 1970s musical group Boney M. was known.

Early years

Farrell was born on the island of Aruba in the Lesser Antilles, where he lived until the age of 15 years. After leaving school, he worked for two years as a sailor until he settled in Norway. From Norway, he moved to the Netherlands, where he worked as a disc jockey (DJ). He later moved to Germany.

Years with Boney M.

In Germany he worked mainly as a DJ until he was won in 1976 by Frank Farian as a dancer for the group Boney M.. He contributed by his flamboyant dance choreography at the television and live performances to the success of the group. The male singing voice of the group came from Farian. Farrell moved his lips at performances to music and song from the band (full playback ).

1982 Farrell was replaced with Boney M. by quarrels with Farian by Reggie Tsiboe, but returned in 1984 back to reconcile the differences to the group. As of 1992, joined Farrell - against the will of Farian - with its own Boney M. - formation on. Farrell appeared as a dancer in 2005 to in the video clip Turn on the Music by Roger Sanchez. From 1981 to 1994 he was married to a Yugoslav fashion model.

Later years and death

30 December 2010 Farrell was found dead during a concert tour in his hotel room in St. Petersburg. He died, according to the autopsy report of heart failure. The night before, he had complained of feeling unwell. The funeral took place on January 8, 2011 at the Amsterdam Cemetery Zorgvlied.

Farrell lived in Gaasperdam district in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Only a year before his death, he had moved to Amstelveen.
