Bobby Gimby

Bobby Gimby ( born October 24, 1918 in Cabri / Saskatchewan, † 20 July 1998 in North Bay / Ontario) was a Canadian bandleader, trumpeter and songwriter.

Gimby played trumpet since his childhood and has performed with various bands until he formed his own band in Toronto mid-1940s. From 1949 he had his own show, the Bobby Gimby show at the CBC. In the 1950s he was a frequent guest of The Happy Gang and musical director of the TV show Juliette. Establishing the Malaysian Federation in 1963, he composed Malaysia Forever, which became the unofficial anthem of the country. His composition Canada became the most popular song of the centenary of Canada 1967. For his contribution to centennial ceremony, he was honored as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

1975 led Gimby the music show Sing a Song for CTV; In 1987 he founded the Bobby Gimby Productions. He composed several songs with comedian Johnny Wayne, whose most popular, The Cricket Song, including was recorded by Ray Bolger.
