Bobby McDermott

Robert McDermott ( born January 7, 1914 in Whitestone Queens, New York, † October 3, 1963 in Yonkers, New York ) was an American professional basketball player.

He played in 1935 for various professional teams between 1936 and 1939 for the Original Celtics and 1941 to 1949 for various teams in the NBL.

McDermott was 1.80 m tall and played the position of guard. He was by far the most prolific and play strongest guard of the late 30s and early 40s. It was 1945, the first NBL player who managed more than 20 points per game over the season.

In the season 46/47 McDermott formed with George Mikan a dominant duo and won the NBL championship. After five times in a row was MVP of the NBL 1942-1946, sports journalists as well as player and coach of the NBL voted him the best player of all time.

On 3 May 1988, he was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial added Basketball Hall of Fame.
