Bobby Wanzer

Robert " Bobby" Wanzer ( born June 4, 1921 in New York City ) is a retired American professional basketball player. Between 1948 and 1957 he played in the U.S. professional league NBA team for the Rochester Royals. Wanzer is 1,83 m tall and played the position of guard. The backcourt duo from Wanzer and Bob Davies led the Royals to the 1951 NBA championship. For his career performance Wanzer started in 1987 as a player in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

During the Second World War, 1943-1946, Wanzer served in the U.S. Marines. He then became a professional basketball player in the newly formed league NBA. Wanzer was the first NBA player to hit over 90 % of the throws from the free throw line. From 1955 he took over the post of coach players in the Royals. From 1963 to 1987 Wanzer coached the team of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York.
