In a document of 1353 he referred to himself for the first time as Boček of Podiebrad, later as Boček of Kunštát on Podiebrad or gentleman on Podiebrad. He founded the Poděbrady branch of the family of the Lords of Kunštát. Headquarters of Poděbrady was for several generations the Podiebrad castle.
