Bockenau

Bockenau is a municipality in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Rüdesheim. Bockenau is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

Bockenau lies on the southern edge of the Hunsrück in the valley of Ellerbachs at 380 meters high Wingertsberg and is enclosed by the Soonwaldsteig precursor whose highest point Ellerspring at 657 m. ü. NN. is, where the Ellerbach springs and Bockenau crosses. The place is thus geographically located in the scenic interesting and mostly untouched forest Gauch. History

At least since the 12th century Bockenau belonged to the County of Sponheim and thus their oldest possessions and thus is on the way Sponheim.
