Bocoio

Province

Bocoio is a city in the central highlands of Angola about 100 kilometers northeast of Lobito and 140 kilometers north-east of Benguela. It is the capital of the eponymous Munizips ( district ) in the province of Benguela, the entire Munizip covers 5612 km ² and has about 61,000 inhabitants. It is bordered on the north by the Munizipe Sumbe and Cassongue, on the east by the Munizip Balombo, to the south by the Munizipe Ganda and Cubal and to the west by the Munizipe Lobito and Benguela,.

The city is situated on the main road from Lobito and Benguela to Huambo.

During the Angolan civil war, the region was highly competitive, today the area is considered affected by landmines. In Munizip Bocoio were Barbara Germany initiated extensive measures, particularly on the part of German Agro Action, the United Nations World Food Programme and the Santa Foundation, which aims to allow the refugees in the coastal towns in the country's long civil war population of returning to the fertile highlands.
