Bodø Cathedral

The Cathedral of Bodø is an Evangelical Lutheran Church Bishop in the Norwegian Bodø in Nordland. It is the seat of the Diocese of Sør- Hålogaland.

The old church was during a German attack on 27 May 1940 ( see company Weserübung ) completely destroyed. In 1946 an architectural competition was organized by the architects of Gudolf Blakstad and Herman Munthe -Khas won. The foundation stone was laid in 1954, in 1956 the church was consecrated by the then Bishop Wollert Krohn- Hansen.

The sculpture in front of the church represents Peter Dass and comes from Kristoffer Leirdal. Next to the cathedral is a 36 meters high tower, which houses three bells. Also, a monument to the Norwegian fallen in World War II is here. It bears the inscription ( translated): " For all of Bodø, who gave their lives for Norway during the war and the occupation. Not listed by name, but not forgotten ".

As a building material for the basilica -type church served concrete. 890 people in the church square. Above the altar on the east wall are stained glass by Åge Storsen and Borgar Hauglid.

The great organ has 94 registers to four manual and pedal works. From the large organ can also allude to the choir organ.
