Bodan-Werft

The Bodan Shipyard Metal GmbH & Co. KG is a special shipyard based in the Baden -Württemberg Kressbronn in Germany. After the shipbuilding divisions continue to exist for the pool and metal as well as for the operation of a port.

History

The company was founded in 1919 by Hermann Stachelhaus was the first industrial shipyard on Lake Constance and then put forth as the only company on Lake Constance steel ships. The first focus of production were motor fishing boats. Licenses of the German car manufacturer, Benz & Cie. were built, as well as smaller passenger motor boats and private yachts. 1927, the first lake ferry for the newly established ferry Konstanz - Meersburg in the shipyard was manufactured.

An increasingly important Contracting Authority from 1920 was the German Reichsbahn, which took over the passenger boat trip on Lake Constance on country lanes. First, the German Reichsbahn leaving only smaller vessels in the Bodan -Werft built and moved into the big units of yards outside the Lake Constance region.

During World War II the company was committed and the Navy landing craft built for the Wehrmacht. Part of the production was dismantled after the war, but already from 1946 people again fishing boats and ships were rebuilt from 1949. By modernizing and expanding the shipyard was now also able to manufacture larger ship units.

Major customers in addition to Deutsche Reichsbahn or their successors as operators of the German White Fleet since 1952, the Lake Zurich Navigation Company ( CCU ), which today still has eleven active ships ( including the flagship MS Helvetia ) and three Limmat boats Bodan -Werft, as well as the Zurich - ferry Horgen miles AG, which has ordered a total of five ferries from 1968.

The term " Bodan ferry" were after Bodan -Werft named pioneer ferries 1962-2001 in the German army in action.

According to the Notice of IG Metall on 28 December 2010, the Group Bodan Kressbronn the divisions yard and construction office intends to adjust the spring of 2011 and to liquidate due to debt.
