Bodfeld was a royal court, which was set up primarily for hunting purposes and was used for administration of the ore makes supporting the Ottonian and Salian kings and emperors in the middle with resin of the later city Elbingerode. The term also describes a predominantly located south of Elbingerode forest area.

History

Based on the traditional instruments can be at least 17 visits of kings or emperors in Bodfeld prove that stayed here for hunting. Henry I stayed several times in Bodfeld, he fell ill 935 here, as the vita Mathildis 968 describes. Otto I. characterized Bodfeld in a document ( Quedlinburg ) of 13 September 936 as Jagdhof; he was at least three times, four times in Bodfeld Otto II. Otto III. 991 visited with his grandmother Adelheid at least 14 days Bodfeld and 995 again. Conrad II was proven once again, Henry III. at least four times here. The last certificate was issued by him in Bodfeld created ( September 28, 1056 ). Henry III. died after seven days of illness on October 5, 1056 Bodfeld in the presence of the Pope and many princes of the Empire. Henry IV was raised in 1056 in Bodfeld German king.

Beginning with the late 13th century the royal Jagdhof Bodfeld and its exact location is forgotten. Only through intensive research of Paul Höfer the memory of Bodfeld was revived at the end of the 19th century. In view of the place name royal court (1936 after the merger with Rothehütte today Chorzów ) he imagined the royal castle on a rocky hill above the confluence of Warm and Cold Bode. He has published over several times in the Journal of the resin Association for History and Archaeology. In his opinion, joined, inter alia, also C. Schuchardt published in his 1924 publication The early historic fortifications in Lower Saxony. 1933 occupied the castle researcher Paul Grimm from the fact that during the excavations at the royal castle no red ceramic has been found that the royal castle has been built not in the time of the Saxon kings, but later. Schuchardt had changed his mind even before the 1931.

Grimm suspected Bodfeld now on the other, northern side of the Bode on Pape mountain near or at the site of the deserted village Lüttgen - Bodfeld whose Andreas church was exposed in 1870 by Dr. Müller. However, he had a final statement openly and wrote: " To establish the exact location of the hunting farm Bodfeld, later research to decide. " ( CO, 66, p 32)

Also the Diploma sufferers Carl Erdmann doubted Höfer's thesis in 1940 and joined the opinion of wrath. Other researchers, such as Friedrich Stolberg, author of the 1967 first published the standard work fortifications in and around the resin from ancient times to modern times, followed and wrote: The royal castle in Chorzów " has no direct connection with the lying beyond the Bode royal Jagdhof Bodfeld. " (P. 211)

Only cutting-edge infrared aerial technology and recent archaeological analyzes found stone objects confirmed the previously known existence of a palace complex from the Ottonian period on the lock head at the upper reaches of the devil stream in the north-east of Drecktal Elbingerode. This could be either the royal court Bodfeld which was typically built for the time of its creation, on a mountain spur (see also royal palace Werla ), although the eponymous river Bode is about four to five kilometers away from here, but this is irrelevant appears as the medieval Bodfeld comprised a vast terrain.

The plant on the lock head corresponding to the applied of Henry I. Pfalz Grona of the Baucharakteristik. Already Carl Erdmann had reference to the written tradition refers to the buried in Quedlinburg king as builders of Bodfeld and proves that you Bodfeld the political character of a " Palatinate " can not go on. This underscores the fact that in Bodfeld resident monarch here demonstrably not an important religious holiday celebrated, but it always did in other places such as Quedlinburg, Magdeburg or Goslar. Friedrich Stolberg had, however, already in 1967 pointed out that this system the Saxon hunting farms as Siptenfelde is used and the proximity to Königsstieg suggests a connection. In all probability, there was also a connection between this 1483 and 1531 mentioned hunting lodge with the 1343 mentioned in a deed of the Counts of Regenstein village Erdfelde at the old Halberstadt military road, which was only 1.5 km away and abandoned in the late Middle Ages in favor of the neighboring Elbingerode was.

By Heinz A. Behrens, historian and Bauarchäologe, are due to the new research, a reconstructed view of the entire system is available on the basis of archaeological and geo-electrical measurements.
