Bodhicitta

In the Buddhist teaching is bodhichitta ( Skt. बोधिचित्त, IAST bodhicitta; Chinese菩提 心, pinyin Puti xīn, W.-G. p'u - t'i hsin; jap bodai shin; Tib བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས་, Wylie byang chub kyi sems; " mind of enlightenment " ) the pursuit of enlightenment ( bodhi ). Bodhichitta is to attain the selfless determination, the goal of enlightenment is not for personal gain but for the benefit of all beings.

Etymology

The word ' bodhichitta ' is made up of the words ' Bodhi ' ( awakening, enlightenment) and ' Chitta ' - together ( mind, emotion, thought) and is therefore translated as enlightenment spirit or mind of enlightenment.

Divisions of Bodhicitta in Mahayana Buddhism

Bodhichitta is often grouped and distinguished.

Bodhichitta consists of two wishes:

According to the activity to be distinguished:

  • Wish forming bodhichitta: the desire for enlightenment - example: he wishes to go to India, without doing it actively
  • Active bodhichitta: practicing the six perfections with the goal of enlightenment - example: yourself to be on the trip to India.

With respect to his nature as to be distinguished:

  • Relative Bodhichitta - a method aspect of the Mahayana. The setting for the benefit of all beings to attain enlightenment in order to liberate from samsara.
  • Absolute bodhichitta - a wisdom aspect of the Mahayana. It refers to the realization of emptiness ( Sanskrit: shunyata ) inseparable from universal compassion and beyond dualistic notions

There is also a 22-fold subdivision of the species and a threefold subdivision after adjustment.

The Mahayana Buddhism. UPON the teaching and practice always bodhichitta Bodhichitta is emphasized as the essence of Mahayana and praised. It is said to belong to Mahayana, anyone who has this setting, no matter what tradition or religion he or she follows, or whether he is a human being, an animal, or other living creatures.

In Vajrayana Buddhism bodhichitta is the most important motivating factor for the practice. It is said that a practice is in vain that are not based on bodhichitta.
