Bodo VII, Count of Stolberg-Wernigerode

Count Botho zu Stolberg the Elder (* 1375, † March 15, 1455 in Stolberg ( Harz) ) was a German nobleman. He ruled the County of Stolberg and since 1429 the county of Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains.

Life

Botho was the son of Count Heinrich of Stolberg and Elisabeth, née Countess von Hohenstein. Of his youth nothing is known. Presumably he was staying temporarily at a court of the counts of Schwarzburg, possibly in special Hausen.

After the death of his father, he first ruled jointly with his elder brother Henry, who died around 1416. For the first time in 1403 Botho entered independently acting in appearance was acquired as the fiefdom Rosperwenda.

In 1429 he became the new master of the Northern Harz Wernigerode County after the death of the last Count of Wernigerode.

One of his most significant companies was the 1433 was Erbverbrüderung with the houses Schwarzburg and Hohenstein.

The already over 50 years old Count Botho married in June 1431, Anna, the daughter of Count Heinrich of Schwarzburg, who gave him 1433 and 1434 the son and successor of Henry and daughter Elizabeth.

On March 17, 1455, he was buried in the crypt at St Martin's Church in Stolberg.
