The eight- year-old Simon embarks on a fantastic journey into the body of his grandfather to save it against a disease. In this quest, support him, a white and a red blood cell. Together they determine the cause of the disease on the track.
Introduction
The eight- year-old Simon lives during the summer holidays with his grandfather on a desert island. The grandfather tells Simon of his grandmother, who died 31 years ago already. Since then, the old man mourns the death of his wife and never overcame the loss. The grandfather was once a jazz musician, but since the death of his wife, he has not played correctly.

1 sequence The next day the grandfather with Simon wants to go into town to meet up with some old musician friends and play again. But at night it's the grandfather very bad. There is no phone on the island, Simon knows not how to help the grandfather. Since his teddy bear who knows a solution reports. Using his chemistry set the teddy bear concocts a potion that shrinks Simon. So Simon passes through the mouth of his grandfather in the body, to see there after things.

Construction
The film is designed visually very expensive. The various organs, goes through the Simon with the white and red blood cells in the course of the film are very imaginative elaborated, where the production is based on classic stage structures, which are combined with modern computer tricks.
In addition, the audience learns a lot about the emotional states of the protagonists and the development, by making this throughout history.
People
Simon is an eight year old boy who suddenly is faced with a threatening situation. His grandfather is ill, and he does not know how to help him. So he finally comes to the realm of fantasy and takes a fantastic journey. In this case, the boy matures itself, because in the end it is the shrunken state great again, because he has grown inside of courage in the fight against kidney stone.
About the grandfather you notice in the course of the story a lot. He has withdrawn into itself and can not correctly process the death of his wife. But he finally frees himself from the emotional isolation, as he realizes that his beloved wife was always in his heart.
Also, the white and red blood cells are represented as sentient beings. Also they make in the course of history through a learning process and eventually fall in love themselves.
Needs
In the film, the level of reality is mixed with a pure fantasy world. There the question is thereby left open whether Simon was now actually in the body of his grandfather, or whether the whole is not just a dream was, and the old man at night drunk water in time.

The idea to shrink people wander through a human body, was repeatedly put into movies. Firstly, in Fantastic Voyage (1966 ) directed by Richard Fleischer and Innerspace (1987 ) by Joe Dante.

A total of seven awards received " On the hunt for the kidney stone " in which Vibeke Idsøe for the first time directed. He was awarded in 1997, inter alia, " Amanda Award " as the best debut release.
