History

Middle Ages

Boffzen was first mentioned in records under the name Boffeshus in the Corveyer traditions. There, a land grant is held in Latin. Translated it says: "It gave Adalbod for the salvation of his brother Swyricdac in Boffeshus a hoof ".

The name Boffzen is one of the patronymic place names and means "house of Bovo ". The live - type is widespread in southern Lower Saxony. Even the name Bovo is not unknown. The most famous bearer of this name is Abbot Bovo of Corvey I. ( 879-890 ). He was the Nepos the Abbot Warin I. ( Corvey ). Unfortunately, the term is ambiguous nepos. It is interesting in this context, a deserted village in the municipality Essezen. It is very probably due to a designation for a Asic / Esic. A 855 deceased comes Beffo to have been brother of this ASIC. A well-known Asig ( Esikonen ) was comes in Hessengau. This Asic / Asig was in second marriage with Ida the younger, probably a daughter of the dux Ekbert (Saxony ) married. It is therefore not unlikely that the places Boffzen and Essezen but go back to those same Asic and his brother Beffo or on the Abbot Bovo I. The similarity of names of Beffo and Bovo makes it seem plausible that a relationship existed, perhaps most appropriately by Ida the younger and Asic. This Bovo I would also nephew " nepos " of Warin.

End of the 12th century, the Knights and Ministerialengeschlecht is those mentioned by Boffessen in documents for the first time. The landlords owned farms and estates in Maygadessen at Godelheim in Bosseborn and in Hoexter. Konrad von Boffessen participated in the 5th crusade in part to the Holy Land. In the 15th century the noble family experienced the social decline. Knights were no longer in demand in an age in which firearms and the mercenary nature established. The trace of the family of Boffessen finally lost in the 18th century.
