Bogalusa (also Bogaloosa ) is a city in Washington Parish in the State of Louisiana.

Location

Bogalusa is located on the eastern border of Washington Parish, Louisiana on the Pearl River and is the manufacturing and trading center of this area. On 4 July 1914, the site was officially registered by a government commission.

History

The name " Bogalusa " is of indigenous origin and derived from the stream Bogue Lusa, which means as much as gray water or Dark Water. Bogalusa was founded by the company Goodyear, which in 1906 established a sawmill here. ( Great Southern Lumber Company ). Even today (2009 ) is one of the company operating the Temple-Inland 's leading manufacturers of pulp, paper, cardboard boxes, paper bags and other paper products in the United States. Part of the National Guard are stationed in Bogalusa.
