Bogolyubovo, Vladimir Oblast

Bogolyubovo (Russian Боголюбово, scientific transliteration Bogoljubovo ) is a village ( selo ) in the European part of Russia. The town has 4494 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ), is due to its historical significance to the tourist route of the so-called Golden ring.

Geography

Bogolyubovo located in Vladimir Oblast, about 200 kilometers northeast of Moscow and 14 km northeast of the regional capital Vladimir. It belongs administratively to the district ( raion ), Suzdal, Suzdal whose administrative headquarters is located around 30 km north. Immediately east of the village flows the River Nerl in the Klyazma.

The Bogolyubovo Selo is one of the 16 villages that the so-called rural settlement Bogolyubovo ( Сельское поселение Боголюбово ) belong.

History

Bogolyubovo was founded in the mid 12th century and is one of the oldest towns in central Russia. 1158 was Andrei Bogolyubsky, Grand Prince of Vladimir and Suzdal, there build his new residence. He called the resulting work place Bogolyubov - gorod and left it there as a representative of the first buildings to build the Virgin Birth Church (1158-1165), are obtained from the today part of the base. In the 12th and 13th centuries the town was after several attacks of hostile princes and largely destroyed during the invasion of the Golden Horde and temporarily abandoned to decay. As a suburb of the old Grand Duke and Metropolitan Vladimir had Bogolyubovo seat, which also was on the old mail between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, until the 16th century city rights. The northern part of the town formed a so-called Posad, an old Russian merchant and artisan settlements.

After the rising of the Vladimir - Suzdal principality in the Grand Duchy of Moscow Bogolyubovo lost its former importance, and later the city rights. In Soviet times, the spiritual life in the village came to a standstill, only since the 1990s, the churches and the monastery are back in the possession of the Russian Orthodox Church.
