Bogon filtering

Bogon is a slang term for an IP data packet on the public Internet that purports to be from a valid address of the internet protocol, but in reality not by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) or a delegated Regional Internet Registry (RIR ) was assigned. The totality of unallocated addresses is called Bogon space.

The term Bogon comes from the hacker language and is closely related to (English Bogosity ), the false recognition, and with (English bogus properties ), the wrong features. A Bogon package is often criminally relevant because the invalid sender address will be used for illegal purposes, software engineering, it is useless.

Many end-user firewalls and those of ISPs filter out Bogon data because they are useless, and may indicate an incorrect configuration of the sending server.

The " Bogosity " status of an IP address may change, as the IANA and other Internet address administrators ISPs often assigned address spaces. Such new awards usually appear on the mailing lists, the network administrator and can then be removed from the CRL.

With the introduction of IPv6, the proportion of unused address space is rapidly enlarge.
