Geographical unit

Bogor is a city in Jawa Barat (West Java) in Indonesia with 750 250 inhabitants. It lies about 60 km south of Jakarta to 290 m above sea level. inst and is surrounded by mountains. Together with Jakarta, Tangerang and Bekasi Bogor is gradually growing together into a unified settlement area, which ranks among the acronym " Jabotabek " one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world.

Bogor is the rainiest city of Java. Even in the dry season can be expected from the afternoon with heavy rains that can last up into the night. Average Bogor is plagued by over 320 thunderstorms per year. The city, therefore, is nicknamed " Kota Hujan " (rain city).

In colonial times, the Dutch Bogor used since 1745 as a residence in the summer; they gave it the nickname of " Buitenzorg " ( Carefree ). During the period of British rule over Indonesia ( 1811-1816 ) Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles Bogor used it as his country seat.

Bogor is famous for its world- famous Botanical Garden, the " Kebun Raya Bogor ."

Transport links

From the North Bogor is connected via the toll Jagorawi highway with Jakarta. From the Southeast Bogor is connected via the Puncak Pass with Bandung and from the south on a country road with Sukabumi.

There is a train connection with Jakarta. The train from Jakarta via Bogor and Bandung to Yogyakarta did not exist temporarily due to the spillage of a tunnel.

Religion

Bogor Bogor is the seat of the diocese.

Attractions

The 87 -acre botanical garden, the most famous attraction Bogor. Opened on May 18, 1817 park was created on the initiative of the German botanist Georg Kaspar Karl Reinwardt and now houses a collection of 6000 plant species, including more than 200 palm trees and 883 species of orchids. A highlight is the Titan Arum ( Amorphophallus titanum ), a Solomon's lily with a seven-foot tall spike.

Adjacent is the Istana Bogor, a now -used by the Indonesian President palace which dates back to the Dutch colonial period and the year 1744.

There are also several museums and a few historical buildings from the colonial period to visit. When trips are ideal for hiking in the surrounding hills or a ride to Puncak Pass and the local wildlife park " Taman Safari ".
