Böhmspint (Merops boehmi )

The Böhmspint (Merops boehmi ) is a bird of the family of bee-eaters, also called lockers. From the central and eastern into southern Africa into Headquartered species is named after the German zoologist and explorer Richard Böhm ( 1854-1884 ).

Features

The Böhmspint reaches a body length of 17 centimeters and weighs about 20 grams. The wings, back and abdomen are greenish. The tail is like the beak and the eye-streak black, throat and forehead are brown - reddish. The iris and the legs are brown. Males and females look alike.

Food

The food of Böhmspints consists of insects, such as butterflies, bees and wasps, locusts and ants. They are caught in flight and eaten or taken to the crushing of a protected location.

Habitat and Distribution

The habitat of the Böhmspints are clear and dense forests in the southern and equatorial Africa, especially with mopane trees. It is found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.
