Bohuslav Sobotka

Bohuslav Sobotka ( born October 23, 1971 in Telnice u Brna ) is chairman of the Social Democratic Party ( CSSD ) in the Czech Republic, former Finance Minister and Prime Minister since January 17, 2014.

Biography

In the years 1985-1990 he attended high school in Bučovice, then 1990-1995 the Law Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno. Since 1989 he is a member of CSSD.

But his interests are also of history, science fiction literature, traveling and the film. He is married and has two sons.

Political activity

He was first elected to the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 1996, the second time for the legislative period 1998-2002. In the years 1996-1998 he was a member of the Mandate and Immunity Committee, 1998-2001 Chairman of the Subcommittee on financial and capital markets and the State Budget Committee.

From May 2001 to July 2002, he served as Group Chairman of the CSSD Group and Chairman of the temporary commission of the Chamber of Deputies for the pension reform. Since November 1998 he is a member of the City Council in Slavkov near Brno. In the period of 15 July 2002 to 4 August 2004, he held the position of finance minister in the government of Vladimír Špidla this post he retained in the following Government of Stanislav Gross. In October 2003, he was appointed by Great addition to the deputy prime minister in charge of the reform of public finances. On 25 April 2005 he was appointed again as Minister of Finance in the government Paroubek.

After the CSSD had to relinquish the responsibility of government in September 2006, was Sobotka member of the shadow cabinet of opposition leader Paroubek and was Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies. On 1 January 2009 he again took over the chairmanship of the Group CSSD Group. After the poor showing of the Social Democrats in the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic on 29 May 2010 and the resignation of the chairman Paroubek Sobotka took over as first deputy chairman acting head of the party. On 18 March 2011, he was elected in Brno on Congress to chair the party. On March 15, 2013, was confirmed on a Party with around 84 % of the delegates' votes in his office.

After successful defense of a trial to his political disempowerment, which had been launched from the ranks of his opponents in the leadership of the CSSD after the parliamentary elections in October 2013 with the support of the President Miloš Zeman, Sobotka is of Zeman on November 12, 2013 the formation of a been appointed the new Czech government. On January 17, 2014 he was sworn in on January 29, 2014 and his cabinet was sworn.

Technically he is responsible mainly for public finance and tax law.
