Boian (Sibiu)

Boian ( German Bonnesdorf, såksesch Bonnesdref, Hungarian Alsóbajom ) is a village in Transylvania in the district of Sibiu ( Hermannstadt), Romania. It belongs to the municipality Bazna ( Bazna ).

Location

The place is located in a south-facing side of the Târnava Mica ( Small Kokel ) in Zwischenkokelgebiet, about 5 kilometers west of Bazna ( Bazna ) and 19 km northwest of Medias away.

History

Bonnesdorf emerged as a humble community in the field of Kokelburger county. Its name is attributed to the old German personal name Bonno. In contrast to the villages of the neighboring Media shear chair did not succeed the place to join the King ground, but retained his status on Komitatsboden Nationals.

The first written mention dates back to 1309, when during a tithe dispute between the cathedral chapter and the White Burger ( Transylvanian ) Saxon deaneries under the Plebanen from the small Kokel ( de minori Kukullev ) also Theodricus de villa Boneti is listed.

Population

While the large size of the Protestant church indicate a numerically strong Transylvanian Saxon population in earlier times, the town in the 20th century was far less of them characterized as the surrounding towns of Media shear chair. After the revolution of 1989, most German -born residents emigrated. The population has since went back significantly. Today, the site is predominantly inhabited by Romanians and Roma.
