Boise City is a city in Oklahoma in the United States and the county seat of Cimarron County. The town has 1483 inhabitants ( 2000).

' Boise ' is Beuss [ bɔis ] pronounced, in contrast to the same written capital of Idaho, the Beußi [ bɔisi ] is pronounced.

Geography

Boise City has an area of 3.3 km ². It is located in the Oklahoma Panhandle between Colorado and Texas. It lies in the Great Plains of the United States, a dry Prairiegebiet.

Population

According to the 2000 census, Boise had 1,483 residents, 610 households, and 400 families. The population density was 449.4 inhabitants per km ². The population consisted of 81.66 % White, 0.20 % African American, 1.69% Indians ( " Native American " ), 0.27 % Asian, 13.35% and 2.83 % other groups mongrels. Regardless of skin color were 21.04 % as Hispanics ( Spanish -speaking ).

Of the 610 households 29.8 % had children under the age of 18, 55.1 % consisted of married couples, 33.1% of singles, 18.4% of single people over 65. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size is 2.99 people.

26.2% of the population were under 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 21.7 % 25 to 44, 24.3 % 45 to 64 and 21.2% 65 and older. For every 100 females 90.4 males.

The average income was 30 071 U.S. dollars. 14.7 % of families and 19.1 % of the population were below the poverty line.

History

Boise City was built in 1908 by J. E. Stanley and A. J. Kline founded, touting it as the elegant, tree-lined city with paved roads, versatile commercial, railway terminal and natural fountains. They sold 3,000 parcels to settlers who had to find out on arrival that none of these claims was true. Stanley and Kline were convicted of fraud.

The settlement was nevertheless and had 1920 250 inhabitants. Boise suffered in the 30s under the dust storms in the Dust Bowl, which temporarily inhibited its development.
