Geography

Geographical Location

Boitze lies on the western edge of the Natural Park of the Elbe Valley. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Dahl castle, which has its administrative headquarters in the spots Dahl castle.

History

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Ahndorf, Neetzendorf and Seedorf were incorporated.

Origin of the name

Old names of the place are 1303 Boldewinus de Botz ( Lüneburg), 1304 Ottho Botze ( Lüneburg), 1316 in Boitze; Slavico Sedorpe et Boetze, 1347 Conrad de Botzom ( Neubürger Lüneburg), 1363 Albertus van Bolzano, Bolzano Henneke van ( Lüneburg), 16th Century Boitze.

The word Botze probably contains the word " boke (beech) ," a linguistic phenomenon in which in this area, the k z was. Probably from an old Saxon place names * bok - ing to go out in the low German bok ' beech ' is present and where change of k > -ts-/-tz-/-z- as in the place name Boitze ( Kr Lüneburg), Boitzen ( Kr Rotenburg / Wümme) and Boitzum ( Kr Hildesheim ) is attributable to the so-called " Zetazismus ". This is a change that has taken place in Altniederdeutschen and has left its mark in many place names: Celle, Zeven, Zellerfeld, and others. So the place name means " Buchenort ".

The municipality belongs to the Boitze parliament constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

Mayor

The honorary mayor Udo Staacke was elected on 9 September 2001.

Blazon: The coat of arms shows in one of two three-section from bottom right to top left running parallel blue wavebands yellow escutcheon top right of a legally -looking black horse head, between the two wavebands with the tip at an angle to the upper left four green beech leaves, bottom left with the tip perpendicular top three green beech leaves.

Attractions

The megalithic site of Seedorf is an extended dolmen with the Sprockhoff no. 718, located in the municipality. The long barrow at Boitze is about 750 m south of the village.

Dahl Castle - - Dannenberg (Elbe ) on the northern outskirts of the village, about 3 km north of the main town municipality, the federal highway 216 runs Lüneburg.

Rail transport

In Boitzer community part Neetzendorf is a stop on the Wendland path that leads from Dannenberg after Luneberg.
