The Showtime Southern 500 is a race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which was held at the Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. It was organized as a night race on Saturday night.

The first race was held in 1957 as a 300 - mile race and was called Rebel 300 In 1966 the distance was extended to 400 miles and from 1973 to 500 miles. From 1994, a shortening followed back to a race distance of 400 miles. After the second race on the track, the Southern 500, had to be removed as a result of the Ferko process from the racing calendar, was an extension of the distance back to 500 miles.
