Bokerley Dyke

Bokerley Dyke is a Romano-British militia in the north east of the county of Dorset, near the village of Pentridge. He cuts the Roman Road in the section between Old Sarum and Badbury Rings.

It is dated to the year 367 and was used to repel Saxon invaders in Dorset. It is believed that the defense was successful because the Romano-British culture in Dorset continued to exist about another 200 years after the fall of the Roman Empire.

The Wall fell in the second half of the sixth century. Another line of defense, known as Combs Ditch was located 30 miles to the southwest, a few time later fell, so that the Saxons invaded in Dorchester.

The Bokerley Dyke enters the Grim's Ditch, which runs through Hampshire.
